wonder, therefore, that Goa is one of
India's prime holiday destinations. Come

Package 2 - DALHOUSIE (Himachal Pradesh)
Compared
to other hill stations, Dalhousie, 80
winding kilometers from Pathankot, is
markedly different and off the beaten
track. Spread over five hills, Dalhousie
has a serenity with its own distinctive
flavor. Attractive cottages and villas
cling to the deodar and pine mantled
hills of Dalhousie. Here at Dalhousie,
nothing seems to matter except the beauty
and the moment. Pink and red rhododendrons
are in bloom. The trees are dressed
in different shades of green. There
is no swirl of traffic. The shops are
small and trim. Whistling softly to
himself, a shopkeeper arranges embroidered
Chamba shawls in his showcase. Tourists
appraise Chamba chappals embroidered
with gold thread, cane baskets, colorful
woolens, and life-like Chamba dolls
- all specialties of the region. Piles
of walnuts and red, black and green
Chamba chilies adorn many shop fronts.
We pass children joyfully picking strawberries
from a hillside decorated with alpine.

Pradesh)

called the "end of the habitable
world," Manali is an important hill
station of northern India and is the destination

for the ones afflicted by the hot Indian
summers. Besides offering quite a few
places for sightseeing, Manali is also
famous for adventure sports like skiing,
hiking, mountaineering, paragliding, rafting,
trekking, kayaking, and mountain biking.
In brief, Manali-the veritable "valley
of the Gods"-is an ideal place for
the ones in search of both adventure and
comfort. The Kullu is in brightly patterned
puttoos, Tibetan women wearing ankle-length
rainbow-striped pinafores, Nepali porters,

4WD005 :: Honeymoon Package 5 - OOTY
 There
is something special about Ooty. The lush
vegetation and the lavender-blue sheen
of the mountains offer a promise of a
summer of peace.
Couched amidst those gorgeous blue mountains
of southern India, there is something
special about the erstwhile British township
of Ooty. Year after year, it draws tourists,
adventure enthusiasts, honeymooners and
the film industry like bees to nectar.
Sure, many wise travelers believe that
Ooty is a dumpyard, a degraded, over-rated
hill station, and so on. Nevertheless,
the wiser one will see how Ooty can soothe
strung-up nerves and become the backdrop
for a wondrous holiday.
Ooty nestles in an amphitheater created
by four majestic hills-Doddabetta, Snowdon,
Elk Hill and Club Hill. These hills are
part of the Nilgiri ranges that are really
the meeting point for the Western and
the Eastern Ghats. But why the 'blue'
mountains-one would naturally wonder at
the name. Do rest assured, when the lavender-blue
flowers of the famous Strobilanthes cover
the hills in floral profusion, it would
be time to stop wondering, for it is these
funnel-shaped blossoms that are the reason
for the name. |

:: Honeymoon Package 6 - DARJEELING

Darjeeling owes' its grandeur to its natural
beauty, its clean fresh mountain air and
above all, the smiling resilient people
for whom it is a home. Known for its natural
splendor, Darjeeling's best gift to its'
visitors is the dawn of a new day. The
mountains awaken first with a tentative
peeking of the sun. A steep ride, five
kilometers from Ghoom, or an invigorating
walk up a steep incline, leads sun worshippers
to Tiger Hill. The air is chilly with
darkness and damp. To the east, a dull
orange sun emerged painting the sky with
brilliant strokes of magenta, gold, orange
and fuchsia. The snow capped Everest,
Kabru, Kanchenjunga, Jannu and other peaks
slowly emerge from slumber to start a
new day. The sun worshippers gasp at the
magnificent sight. As the fog lifts in
the slowly penetrating sun, the town gradually
comes alive. Amidst brewing of tea, the
sing-song Gorkhali which is the local
dialect, rises and falls like music. |
