Festival |
The
International Kite Festival is a excellent piece
of public entertainment and celebration in Rajasthan.
Its mix of kites, music street theatre and arts
and crafts has established a local tradition,
which is freshly invented on the holy day of Makar
Sankranti falling on 14th January each year. Makar
Sankranti is celebrated to welcome the transition
of the sun into the Northern hemisphere.
The International Kite Festival in Rajasthan
attracts an ever-growing number of committed
kite fans, participants and spectators, from
all over India as well as from countries around
the world. In the evening, kites with lights
in them add to the twinkling skies above. Not
only is a kite fun to fly, but also it is also
spectacular to watch. The main centers of celebration
are Jaipur and Jodhpur.
The colorful kite festival thus presents a
golden opportunity for visitors to savor the
international flavor of kite culture in a single
trip.
The highlights of the festivals include exhibitions,
demonstrations and displays of an astonishing
variety of international kites, demonstrations
of kite fighting as a team sport, the staging
of 'kite-fighting' battles and various kite
contests.
