| Taj
Mahal - one of the Seven Wonders of the World
surely the most extravagant appearance of love
ever created. Shah Jahan built it in the memory
of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal who died in 1631
while giving birth to a child. It is made of white
marble and inlaid semi-precious stones. It took
20,000 men over 22 years (1632-1654) to complete
the Taj Mahal. The expert engineer, sculptors,
calligraphers and masons who built the Taj Mahal
had come from all over the India and Parsia (Iran).
The Taj Mahal is the masterpiece of Mugul architecture,
and a world heritage site.

fort of Agra on the banks of the Yamuna River.
Emperor Akbar started the construction of the
fort in 1565. Diwan-I-Am (hall of public audience),
a hall of red-sandstone with a throne niche of
inlaid marble, the Emperor heard public petitions.
At the Diwan-I-Khas (hall of private audience)
where the Emperor sat on his gem-studded peacock
Throne and met important dignitaries and foreign
ambassadors and rulers of friendly kingdoms.
